John 15:11

11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.

2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 

3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

The Proof of Desire is Pursuit!

Joy is both the Source of Expectation and the Result of Expectation. 

Psalm 16:11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forever more.

Joy is sustained through the Power of the Holy Spirit

Philippians 4:4-8 

4 Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!

 5 Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon

12 Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. 14 Do everything without complaining and arguing, 15 so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. 16 Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless.
